Isle of Rabbits
The islet of Rabbits is a lovely place that is located in the south west of the Isle of Lampedusa. It is a small island located in the middle of a wide bay, whose area is about four point four ha, while the ' maximum top of 26 m. The islet is the kingdom of the herring gull, which has a population of about a hundred pairs, and this is where it nests, also lives completely on the rock (as well as in parts of Africa from which it will come from) a particular kind of lizard, the psammodromus algirus.

Controversial is the origin of the identity of the bay. In a paper by Admiral Smith (1824) states for the first time "Rabit Island."

In subsequent maps that identify was improperly translated from English (rabit = rabbit), while it seems more likely its derivation from the Arabic "Rabit", which can be translated into binding (or linking, linking), suggesting a plausible reference to 'isthmus that forms frequently between the island and the coast.

The Italian identify may therefore be considered a real quid pro quo language. Others say the name's origin is due to the fact that, many years back, a colony of rabbits reached the island just at the moment when it was related to the mainland. When the bridge of sand disappeared and the waters of the sea emerged, the rabbits were trapped, were reproduced, becoming so numerous as to be baptized the place "Rabbit Island." Everything continues to be "sure" to this strange and interesting phenomenon that sees the island to rejoin the mainland and whose scientific reasons are perhaps still unclear.
